Remove guardians from students in Linewize Community

This article is intended for IT Support at schools with Linewize Community who use School Manager to manage students’ access to their network and internet connections.

Warning

Purging breaks the connection between guardians and students. If you purge connected guardians in School Manager, you must re-sync or re-upload guardian data to maintain the guardian/child connection. Guardians won’t be able to use Student Usage and Insights and Pause Internet until you have restored the connection. If more than 60 days pass between the purge and re-sync/re-upload, affected guardians will be disconnected from their child and will need to follow the student connection process again.

Adding a guardian is the process in Linewize Community of creating a singular association between a guardian and a student at your school. Adding a guardian to a student allows them to use Qustodio to connect the student. Connecting to a student gives guardians access to an overview of that student’s activity on school-managed devices, and to any other Community features that you have enabled at your school, such as Pause Internet.

You can use your School Information System (SIS) to remove guardians from students. This will prevent guardians from being able to connect to the student, and is most useful when there’s been a change of family circumstance, or you’ve identified an error in your guardian or student data. If you do not sync your guardian data via SIS, please prepare an updated list of guardians (including any extras that might have come to your school since your last upload) and contact Linewize Support to purge your existing guardian data and re-upload the up to date one.

If a guardian has already connected to a student, you can disconnect them instead of removing them. Disconnecting differs from removing in that disconnecting removes a guardian’s existing association to a student, while removing stops the guardian from being able to connect to the any children in the first place.

The method of removing guardians from students will depend on the method you use to upload student and guardian data into School Manager.

Removing via SIS synchronization

If you sync guardian and student information into School Manager via a SIS, you must change their details in your SIS and re-sync it with School Manager.

Disconnect Guardians in School Manager

Important

Only use the manual method if you add guardian data to School Manager via CSV or manual entry. If you use a SIS, you must make your changes there.

  1. Go to School Manager > Configuration > Users and Groups > Users.
  2. Select Search and enter the student’s name or email address.
  3. Select the student.
  4. Select Disconnect Parent.
  5. A confirmation window will appear, select Yes, Disconnect Parent.

Remove Guardians from School Manager

To delete a guardian from School Manager:

For guardians uploaded by CSV file or locally managed:

  • Individual Guardian Removal: Contact Linewize Support to delete an individual guardian from School Manager.
  • Bulk Removal: Prepare a new CSV with the updated guardian list and contact Linewize Support to delete the existing data and upload the new CSV file.

For guardians synced through SIS:

  • Remove the guardian from your SIS. They will be automatically removed from School Manager during the next sync.
