Enrolling devices depends on your school’s configuration. Contact your Linewize Account Manager to check whether enrolling devices suits your school.
About enrolled devices
Enrollment registers Windows and macOS devices with Linewize Filter. After enrollment, administrators can apply configurations to the device. These include content filtering, access restrictions, and other management settings.
Enrolled devices get Linewize Filter features such as filtering outside school hours and off-campus network restrictions. Chromebooks and mobile devices use their own enrollment processes.
To enroll, a device must have Linewize Connect installed. On Windows and macOS devices, the Connect app handles enrollment. You can also enroll devices using the Linewize Filter hardware-based auto-enrollment process.
The enrollment process depends on which devices your students use:
Chromebooks
Windows
macOS
iOS
Enroll Chromebooks in Linewize Filter
To enroll Chromebooks, turn on Google integration in Linewize Filter. Then deploy the Connect for Chrome extension to student devices.
Turning on Google authentication
Follow the steps to configure Google integration
In Linewize Filter, go to Configuration > Authentication > Google.
Make sure Use FZ Auth API and Allow Chrome Extension Authentication are selected.
Deploy the Connect for Chrome extension
Linewize Filter uses the Connect extension to enroll Chromebooks. You must install it on students’ devices.
Schools using Google Workspace for Education can deploy the Connect extension using the Google Admin console. Your Google Admin selects the student group or organizational unit (OU), then deploys the Connect extension using the appropriate extension ID.
For full steps, see Deploy Linewize Connect for Chrome extension.
Enroll Windows and macOS devices in Linewize Filter
There are two steps to enrolling Windows and macOS devices:
Turn on Mobile Agent filtering in Linewize Filter.
Install Linewize Connect on student devices.
Turn on Mobile Agent
Sign in to Linewize Filter.
Go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.
In the Off Linewize Filter Network section, select Filtering Enabled. This filters students off campus, including at home.
Select a Default Filtering Mode.

DNS |
The Connect agent sets the device to use a DNS server on a loopback address (127.0.0.1). This server intercepts DNS requests and forwards them to the Linewize cloud DNS filter server. The filter applies user policy by resolving the request or returning a block page. |
WEB |
The Connect agent uses a packet filter to intercept traffic on the device and apply user policy. It intercepts traffic on ports 53, 80, and 443. |
COMPANION |
Connect for Windows works with the Connect browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This gives Windows devices extra filtering, reporting, and classroom management features, such as full URL reporting, content modification, and bypass codes. You must set up Companion Mode before you select it. |

Install Linewize Connect
Linewize Filter uses the Connect agent to enroll Windows and macOS devices. To install it, follow the Linewize Connect deployment guides for your operating system.
After you install Connect, it shows the Linewize Filter Device ID and the student’s username in Linewize Filter. If Connect doesn’t show the Device ID, restart the device.
Enrolling iOS Devices to Linewize Filter
Enrolling iOS devices in Linewize Filter requires deploying the Connect app using your Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform.
For the steps, see Deploy Linewize Connect for iOS devices.
