This guide explains how to configure Google Workspace to force-install the Linewize Connect for Chrome extension and how to configure Linewize Filter to work with the extension. If you want to use the Chrome Extension for Extended Rules, follow the steps outlined in Deploying Linewize Parent for Extended Rules.
Before you begin
- If you want to use Off Linewize Filter Network filtering, contact your Account Manager first to see if this is right for your school.
- Contact Linewize Support for access to the Agent Downloads page.
- You must have Super Administrator-level access to your school's Google Workspace account.
- Ensure that you uninstall Connect for Chrome Extension v2.
Configure Google Workspace
- Sign in to Google Admin Console.
- Select Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers.
- Select the Organizational Unit to which you want to deploy the extension.
Note
If you want to deploy the extension for all users, including staff and teachers, highlight your school's top-level organizational unit.
- Hover over the yellow + icon.
- Select Add Chrome app or extension by ID.
- Select From a Custom URL from the dropdown menu.

- To get the Extension ID and URL, Sign in to Linewize Filter and select Configuration > Agent Downloads, you will see the following:
- Select Copy Extension ID and paste it into the Extension ID section on your Google Admin page.
- Select Copy Download URL and paste it into the URL section on your Google Admin page

If you can’t access this page, contact Linewize Support for assistance.
- Select Save.
- On the next screen, select the Installation policy dropdown list and select Force install.
- Select Copy Managed Config in Linewize Filter, then paste it into the Policy for extensions section.
- Select Save. Then check the Update URL section to ensure it’s set to Installation URL.
- Select Save again.
Configure Linewize Filter
There are three steps to configuring Linewize Filter to work with the Connect for Chrome extension:
- Turn on Chrome Extension Authentication
- Configure On Linewize Filter behaviour
- Configure Off Linewize Filter behaviour
Turn on Chrome Extension Authentication
- Sign in to Linewize Filter.
- Turn on Google Authentication.
- Ensure Use FZ Auth API and Allow Chrome Extension Authentication is selected.
Important
If your school only uses Chromebooks, you need to turn on Enable Browser Extension for Chromebooks Only. This setting turns off the Connect extension on any devices that aren’t Chromebooks.
- Go to Debugging > Device Options.
- Under the Agent section, select the Enable Browser Extension for Chromebooks Only checkbox.
- Select Save.
Configure On Linewize Filter Network
Important
It is only necessary to configure On Network if you have a Linewize Filter Appliance.
- Go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.
- Under On Linewize Filter Network, select Filtering Enabled. This will turn on filtering students when they are on campus.
- If you want to force Safe Search, select Google, Bing, and YouTube.
- If you want to turn on Classwize, select Classroom Enabled.
- Select Save.
Configure Off Linewize Filter Network
Warning
Turning on Off Linewize Filter Network filtering can have unintended consequences and may violate your school or district’s policies. Contact a Linewize Account Manager and Deployment Engineer before turn on Off Linewize Filter Network.
- Stay on or go to Configuration > Mobile Agent.
- Under Off Linewize Filter Network select Filtering Enabled. This will turn on filtering students when they are off campus.
- If you want to force Safe Search, select Google, Bing, and YouTube.
- If you want to turn on Classwize, select Classroom Enabled.
- Select Save.
