You should block website access from direct IP addresses to help enforce filtering policies and enhance your school’s network security.
To block access to websites from direct IP addresses:
- In School Manager, select Filtering > Content Filtering.
- Select + Create Policy.
- For the Name, enter Block - HTTP/HTTPS traffic from direct IP addresses - [Scope].
For example, Block HTTP/HTTPS traffic from direct IP addresses - All Students. - In the Type field, enter Direct IP Web Traffic, then select the Signature from the list.
- (Optional) Select Criteria to specify to whom this policy will apply; otherwise, it will apply to all users on your School Manager network.
- For the Action, select Block.
- (Optional) If your school has Man in the Middle (MITM), you can redirect users when they conflict with the policy, select the Redirect checkbox and enter a Redirect URL.
- (Optional) To show your school’s block page when a user conflicts with the policy, select the Blocked Page checkbox.
- (Optional) To receive a Filtering Alert Email when a user conflicts with the policy, select the Alert checkbox.
- We recommend that you don't turn on Quarantine, as Quarantine is used for Proxy/VPN filtering policies.
- (Optional) To stop teachers from overriding this policy, select the Locked checkbox.
- Select Save Policy.
