Linewize determines student activity as on-campus or off-campus based on network context and school hours. This approach ensures that activity is accurately associated with a student’s physical location while maintaining consistent behavior during defined school hours.
Before you begin
- You must have access to Parent in Linewize Filter.
Understand On-Campus vs. Off-Campus Activity
Linewize determines whether an activity is on-campus or off-campus based on the connection.
- On-Campus Activity: Activity is categorized as on-campus if the device meets any of the following criteria:
- The device is connected to a Cloud Safe Network .
- The device is connected to an On-Linewize Filter Network (behind a Linewize Filter Appliance).
- The activity occurs during scheduled school hours.
Note
If School Calendar is not set, all activities are categorized as On-Campus.
- Off-Campus Activity: Activity is categorized as off-campus only if the device satisfies all of the following conditions simultaneously:
- The device is not connected to a Cloud Safe Network.
- The device is not connected to an On-Linewize Filter Network (outside a Linewize Filter Appliance).
- The activity occurs outside of scheduled school hours.
Activity Classification Reference Matrix
The following table breaks down how network connections and school schedules combine to determine the final classification.
| Linewize Filter Appliance Connection | Cloud Safe Network (IP-based) Connection | School Hours Schedule | Activity Classification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connected (Behind Appliance) | Connected or Not Connected | During or Outside School Hours | On-Campus |
| Not Connected | Connected | During or Outside School Hours | On-Campus |
| Not Connected | Not Connected | During School Hours | On-Campus |
| Not Connected | Not Connected | Outside School Hours | Off-Campus |
