Linewize Filter filtering works with Extended Rules to ensure safe browsing for students during and outside school hours. School filtering policies are applied during school hours, while both school and parent filtering policies are enforced outside of school hours.
Important
Extended Rules can only be used on Chromebook and Windows devices.
Before you begin
- You must have permission to manage Linewize Parent.
Filtering During School Time
During school hours (as defined in your School Calendar), Linewize Filter automatically turns off Extended Rules to allow Linewize Connect to enforce your school’s policies without interference.
Filtering Outside of School Hours
When school hours end, filtering becomes a multi-stage process:
-
School filtering: Connect App routes and checks internet traffic against Current School Policies or Safety Net configurations.
- If Blocked: The student is shown a Linewize block page. Parent or guardian Qustodio filtering does not apply.
- If Allowed: Internet traffic is passed to the Qustodio App for parent or guardian filtering.
-
Parent filtering: Qustodio checks the internet traffic against the filtering policies set by the parent or guardian
- If Blocked: The student is shown a Qustodio block page.
- If Allowed: The content is accessed successfully.
Monitoring Blocked Content
Parents can check the timeline to see why specific content was blocked:
- Blocked by school: If a school policy blocks the content, the timeline will display "Blocked by School: Linewize."
- Blocked by Parent Rules: The timeline will show that Qustodio blocked the content based on the parent or guardian’s filtering settings.
