Block specific search keywords to prevent inappropriate or distracting results, block undesirable content, or stop students from trying to bypass restrictions. Changes to search keyword policies appear in your Search Reports.
Important
Linewize Filter currently supports blocking search keywords for Google, Bing and YouTube only.
Connect for Windows and macOS supports blocking keyword searches for Google and Bing. You must include the Google Search and Bing signatures in your MITM Inspected list (Filter > Endpoints > Mobile agent > Windows/macOS).
1: Set up a blocked keywords list
In Connect, go to Filter > Categories & lists > Search terms and select Add New List.
Give the new list a Name and an optional Description.
Select Add List.
2: Add search terms
You can add search keyword entries either individually or in bulk via CSV.
Add search terms individually
On the Search terms page, select Edit (pencil icon) for the list.
Select Add new entry.
-
Give the entry a Name, Entry, and an optional Description.
Note
If you don't add a name, Filter will use the search keyword. You can use search keywords as entry names only once.
Select the check mark to confirm the entry.
Bulk-import search entries via CSV
Warning
Importing blocked keywords will overwrite the keyword entries in the pool. If you've previously added keyword entries, make sure to export them by selecting CSV options > Export list as CSV.
(Optional) In the Edit List page, select CSV options > Download CSV template.
Add your search name, keywords, and descriptions to the template, and save the file as a CSV.
Select CSV options > Import CSV.
You can click Select File and find the CSV containing the blocked keywords, or drag and drop the CSV file into the pop-up dialog.
Select Upload CSV.
Tip
You can edit the search list's name and description before leaving the page.
3: Set up a blocked keywords filtering policy
Go to Filter > Access rules and select Create Policy.
Enter a Policy name (required, at least 4 characters) and Description (optional).
Select the Type dropdown > Custom Search Lists, then your keyword search list.
Select the criteria for the policy. The filter will use your selected criteria to enforce the policy.
Under Action, select Block.
Set options for Lock policy, Blocked page, Redirect, Quarantine, or Send alert.
Select Create Policy.
4: Turn on the blocked keywords policy
Go to Filter > Access rules and find the new Blocked Search policy.
Turn the Status toggle on (green).
Tip
You can move the policy up or down the Content filtering list. See Content Filtering Policy Ordering.
