Granular YouTube policies allow you to set filtering policies at the channel, category, and video levels. This replaces large, difficult URL allow lists, allowing specific educational content while restricting unauthorized videos.
Before you begin
You must have access to Filtering and Configuration in Linewize Filter.
Your students must be using Chromebooks or Windows devices in Companion mode.
Your students must have Connect for Chrome version 3.7.1 or higher installed.
1. Create a YouTube Object Pool
In Linewize Filter, go to Configuration > Objects > Pools.
Select Add New Pool.
Enter a Name and Description, select YouTube List from the Type dropdown, then select Save Object Pool.
-
Select Edit Entries to manually add YouTube channels, categories, or video URLs (or select Import CSV to upload entries in bulk).
Note
Channel display names (for example, National Geographic) aren't supported. Use specific identifiers, such as:
Channel ID: https://www.youtube.com/channel/channel_id
Handle: https://www.youtube.com/@channel_handle
User ID: https://www.youtube.com/user/channel_owner
Add your targeted YouTube content entries and then select Save.
2. Add a YouTube Object Pool to a Filter Policy
Go to Filtering > Content Filtering.
Edit an existing policy or create a new policy.
In the Type dropdown, search for and select the YouTube Object Pool you created in step 1.
Set the policy Action to Allow or Block, depending on your intent.
-
Select Save Policy.
