Linewize Filter’s Student Behaviour Report helps you to review student internet usage. You can explore important metrics like downloads, uploads, blocked connections, total connections, and unique users across different aspects like date, time (hourly), content categories, signatures, and domains.
Note
Our Student Behaviour Report is an optional Linewize Filter feature. Contact your Linewize Success or Account Manager if you want to access this feature.
Important
If you have Outside School Hours on, the Student Behaviour Report excludes user activity that happens outside of school hours.
Access the Student Behaviour Report
You must have either the Filtering/Reporting Administrator or Owner/Global Administrator user role to access the Student Behaviour Report.
- In Linewize Filter, go to Reports > Student Behaviour.
- Select the Day Date.
Enter a new start and end date, or select from the preset values.
Important
While the Date filter may allow you to select an earlier range or preset, reports will not return or download data older than three months from the current date. If the report displays an error message, select a shorter date range.
- Select Group > is any value
Enter the name of the group whose report you want to access. - Select Username > is any value
Enter the name of a student whose report you want to access. - Select an option from Measure Selector
- Download (GB)
This option represents the amount of data downloaded by students. It records the data transfer from external sources to the student devices. - Upload (GB)
This option represents the amount of data uploaded by students. It records the data transfer from student devices to external sources. - Transfer (GB up + down)
This option combines both the download and upload data. It represents the total data transferred, considering both incoming and outgoing data. - Number Users
This option provides information about the total number of unique users or students who have engaged in the monitored behavior during the specified period. - Hits
This option represents the amount of requests to view a web page or access specific content. This option shows how many times students have accessed or viewed web pages or content. It's useful for tracking online activity and content consumption. - Blocked Hits
This option counts the number of times students attempted to access content but were blocked by filtering policy. It can help identify the effectiveness of content filtering.
- Download (GB)
- Select the Load icon.
How to use the Student Behaviour Report data
The Student Behaviour Report can help identify various behaviours and patterns within your school network, providing valuable insights into student activities and broader trends at your school. You can use the report to:
- Identify Significant Network Anomalies: The report can detect significant changes in network usage or anomalies that affect multiple students, helping to identify potential issues and allowing for timely intervention.
- Review an Individual’s Behaviour: The report helps wellbeing staff in providing targeted support to individual students by analyzing their behavior and identifying instances of high usage or unusual activity patterns. You can also adjust the reporting period to analyze long term trends, helping wellbeing staff understand students' evolving patterns of activity.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis: The report supports efforts to uncover the root causes behind specific behaviors or issues by allowing metric comparisons and trend analysis.
- Conduct Product Evaluations: The report tracks students’ use of key educational content over time, allowing your school to assess the value they are deriving from specific educational products. This can help your school to make informed decisions about the effectiveness of its educational resources.
Note
The number of large uncompressed images or files on websites can vary from one webpage to another, potentially impacting data reporting. Hits across websites and categories also fluctuate. For example, within the same category, such as Email, different email providers may load a different number of files, introducing a potential source of variation.

Download the full report
- Select the Dashboard actions (three vertical dots) in the upper right.
- Select Download.
- Select CSV from the Format dropdown.
- Select Download.
Download a section of the report
- Select the Tile actions (three vertical dots) in the upper right of a tile.
- Select Download data.
- Select CSV from the Format dropdown.
- Select Advanced data options.
- Select All results if you have more than 500 results.
- Select Download.
Schedule the report
You can schedule this report to be sent on a recurring basis by email or to a secure file server using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).
