Types of users

This article is for IT Support.

A user represents a person or service that authenticates with Linewize Filter to filter content based on your school’s policies and provide each user with the correct access and configuration.

There are two types of users:

  1. Synced - Imported from your school’s third-party directory or system to Linewize Filter.
  2. Local - Manually added and managed within Linewize Filter.

Synced users

Syncing your third-party directory or system with Linewize Filter ensures the most current data from your registrar and school administration. You must update users in your third-party directory or system, as Synced Users can’t be edited in Linewize Filter.

Info

Linewize Filter syncs nightly depending on your region.

  • US/NZ region: syncs start at 6 PM US Central Time (UTC-5).
  • AU region: syncs start at 6 PM Australian Western Standard Time (UTC+8).
  • UK region: syncs start at 6 PM UTC.

A device's sync may start any time between 6 PM in that region and 24 hours later, depending on previous sync times from other devices. You can manually run a sync to propagate changes before the automatic sync period.

Local users

You can manually create and remove users in Linewize Filter if you don't have a third-party integration.
