What is School Community Platform?

School Community Platform is a comprehensive software solution that expands Family Zone’s Connect protection to allow schools to manage connected devices that are not on the school network. With SCP, schools can manage students' personal devices during school hours, while parents who are subscribed to Family Zone Premium can implement their own settings at all other times.

Why should schools use School Community Platform?

School Community Platform enables schools to extend their duty of care to protect students on any network when Connect is installed on a device.

Can schools use School Community Platform as well as School Manager?

Yes. School Community Platform is designed to complement the School Manager on-premise appliance by addressing the issue of students accessing the internet on non-school networks.

What are the prerequisites for access to School Community Platform?

School Community Platform is available exclusively to Partner Schools.  For more information, contact Linewize Support by selecting Submit a request at the bottom of this page. Or, email us at help@linewize.io.

  • View individual students’ devices and the status of their Family Zone account
  • Set school calendars that reflect holiday periods and year-level exceptions

All devices equipped with the Connect app can be managed through School Community Platform. The following device types are supported:

  • Apple iOS version 13 (2019) and newer
  • Android "Oreo" (8.1, 2017) and newer
  • Apple MacOS 10.14, Mojave (2018)
  • Windows 10 / 64-bit, Windows 11

Will parents and students be informed that the school will manage student devices during school time?

Yes.  Parents must opt in to allow their child’s devices to be made compliant with the school’s filtering policy and calendar.

Who controls filtering outside of school time?

Parents are responsible for controlling filtering outside of school time.

Can School Community Platform manage boarders’ devices and 1:1 school-owned devices?

Yes.

Can the school customize the default policies in each year group?

Yes.

What devices will School-time policy protect?

Filtering policy will be applied to all subscribed devices during the School-time parameters set by the school.

Restrictions will be determined by the year profile of the device user. For example, a Year 7 student will have his device filtered based on the school calendar policy for Year 7 students.

When will the filtering profile be applied?

School filtering policy affects students’ devices during school hours only. Parents are responsible for device management at all other times. This allows engagement across the school community to protect children 24/7  without the burden of additional administration.

Can parents subscribe to the school’s filtering policy?

Yes. Any parent can subscribe to the school’s settings. Parents are able to review and unsubscribe at their discretion.

Can a parent change school policy settings?

No. However, they can temporarily override those settings on their child’s device/s. In such cases, the parent will be prompted with a confirmation notice and the school will be notified.

How does a parent opt in to the School Community Platform?

Parents are invited to opt in to School-time policy during sign up.

Does School Community Platform work with iOS devices being managed by the school MDM?

Yes.  Families will need to install the iOS application in Filter Only Mode to so that we don’t conflict with the school’s MDM profile.  The school won’t be able to see apps from iOS devices.
