Content Filtering is a system that controls what users can access on the internet. Content refers to all material available on the internet (visual media, applications, files, and more), and filtering is the process of deciding what users should or shouldn’t be allowed to access.
Importance of Content Filtering
Content Filtering helps your school:
- Protect users from harmful or inappropriate material.
- Prevent security risks from Malware or Phishing websites.
- Enforce school policies to meet legal and safeguarding obligations.
- Keep students on task by limiting access to distractions.
- Customise Internet access based on age or learning needs.
Linewize’s Content Filtering
You can filter content by creating Filtering Policies in Linewize Filter for specific users, groups of users, or by content type. To filter content accurately based on your school’s policies, Linewize Filter combines many components to:
- Identify users.
- Identify and categorise content.
- Determine whether to block or allow access.
- Report on users’ internet usage.
Depending on your school’s configuration, if a user is blocked, they will see a block page or their browser’s default “Page can’t be displayed” message.
Note
If your school uses Linewize Connect, Fallback Mode will ensure your users’ devices are protected under the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Online Safety Act at all times.
